The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway

One of The South Wests best tourist attractions is The Cliff Railway is the water powered funicular railway which links the seaside resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth.

The Top carriage fills with water and pulls the Bottom carriage up, through the weight of water, unbelievably the water is extracted from the West Lyn River 1 mile away and fills through gravity.

The Top Railway station is accessible from Lynton High street (Lee Road), there is a beautiful wrought Iron entrance and a walkway which during peak season often hosts the Cliff Railway market, giving local people an opportunity to offer crafty goods to visitors to the area and a great place to buy a souvenir from your holiday.

The Cliff Railway Cafe is also situated at the top station, here you can grab a light lunch or just a coffee and cake, there is a scenic view of the track disappearing downwards towards the Lynmouth Station, there is always a friendly team of cafe staff who will be knowledgable on the local area so a great place to ask for directions or recommendations.

500ft down lies the Cliff Railway Lynmouth station, payments processed here for journeys up and down, its also where the water is released to make the carriage lighter and ready for its next upward journey.
